Given that language
learning is a complex process which involves plenty of factors; external as
well as internal, different theories of learning have stated the theoretical foundations
to develop several methods/approaches that improve the quality of teaching to make
these experiences more meaningful and valuable.
As a reaction to major
weaknesses found in both the Grammar Translation Method and the Direct Method,
other methods in language teaching emerged supporting a different view of
learning such as the Situational Language Teaching Method, the Total Physical
Response Method and the Audiolingual Method.
